ODC Hosts Collaborative STEM Workshop for Young Women in Liberiavendredi, mai 10, 2024
The Orange Digital Center (ODC) is thrilled to share highlights from our recent project, "STEM Justice for Young Women in Liberia." This initiative, a collaboration with Delou M. Gonsan-Zeo, a 2023 Mandela Washington Fellow, and Simone Gbolo, the Statewide Director of the Louis Stokes North Star STEM Alliance at the University of Minnesota, aimed to promote STEM education among young girls in Liberia.
The project, part of Ms. Gonsan-Zeo and Ms. Gbolo's reciprocal exchange program under the Mandela Washington Fellowship, brought together a total of 73 young women in high school and first year of college. The workshops were held over two sessions:
May 3rd-4th in Monrovia for 48 young women from the surrounding areas.
May 10th-11th at the Orange Digital Center Club Cuttington in Gbarnga, Bong County, for 25 young women from nearby communities.
During the workshops, participants gained exposure to a variety of STEM career paths and received mentorship from young Liberian women already working in these fields.
As hosts, the ODC was proud to showcase the resources available at our facilities, including the Fab Lab and Co-working spaces. We aimed to inspire these talented young women to pursue their passions in STEM fields.
The ODC is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a significant project and looks forward to continuing its efforts in promoting STEM education and gender equality.
