Voinjama, Lofa County — Clear vision is more than a matter of sight—it is a gateway to opportunity, productivity, and independence. Yet, for many residents in rural and semi-urban communities across Liberia, routine eye care remains a luxury out of reach.
To bridge this gap and celebrate World Sight Day, the Orange Foundation teamed up with its Orange Social Venture Prize (OSVP) laureate, Eye Liberia, to execute a comprehensive community health and eye-screening outreach in Voinjama, Lofa County. After the screening each person that required required a prescription glass was given one, FREE-OF-CHARGE; thanks to the partnership agreement between Orange Foundation and Eye Liberia in relations to World Sight Day celebration, up to six hundred fifty reading glasses worth 2,500 usd was provided to Eye Liberia by Orange Foundation.
The single-day outreach was designed to address uncorrected refractive errors and other common vision impairments that quietly hinder daily life. From local artisans and market traders struggling to read price tags to elderly residents experiencing age-related farsightedness, hundreds of community members turned out to receive professional eye examinations.
Equipped with specialized diagnostic tools, the Eye Liberia screening team performed comprehensive screenings on-site. Individuals diagnosed with vision difficulties were immediately fitted with prescription reading glasses, distributed completely free of charge. For many participants, slipping on a pair of properly fitted glasses for the first time offered an instant restoration of clarity, easing daily tasks and breathing new life into their routines.
